The Situation: When Transport Limits Opportunity
Imagine you want to meet up with friends, go to a café, go shopping, or go on a day out, but you don't have the transport to get there.
For so many children, young people and adults with a disability or neurodivergence and their families right across Surrey, this is a very real barrier to living their lives.
At White Lodge, we know how important it is to be part of the community. Getting out and about is all about building friendships, developing independence, building confidence and improving wellbeing.
But our ability to provide the regular outings is limited by the availability of suitable wheelchair-accessible vehicles, drivers and support.
For adults (in particular those with complex physical disabilities or neurological conditions), these barriers can mean simply missing out on the opportunity to socialise, to go out and to experience things other than White Lodge.
For children and young people, poor transport can have a detrimental effect on their ability to develop life skills, try new things and get ready for adult life.
Everyone should have the opportunity to be part of their community. That's why we're asking for your help in getting more people out and about.
Driving Inclusion. Opening Up Opportunities.
With your support, we will:
- Lease a fully wheelchair-accessible minibus for five years
- Enable our customers to enjoy everyday activities, build friendships, develop independence and feel part of their communities
- Deliver regular community trips and outings
- Recruit, train and support drivers
- Train staff and volunteers to run regular outings
- Fund community memberships, partnerships and admission costs
- Cover essential wheelchair safety equipment, fuel and vehicle running costs
This is about more than a minibus. It's about connection, confidence, opportunity and belonging.
